ANNOTATION

This packet facilitates a workshop for trade unions and community groups to accompany the short film "Trade Secrets: The Hidden Costs of the FTAA." There are five main parts included in this packet: A. Facilitator's Guide B. Talking Points C. Participant's Handout D. Education Role Play E. Health Care Role Play The Facilitators Guide outlines the running of the 1 hour and 10 minute workshop, including key points the facilitator should highlight between and during each activity. It is a brief overview- completed in 4 pages. The "Talking Points" is two pages long and overviews seven prominent arguments against the FTAA. The Participants Handout covers the basics of the Free Trade Area of the Americas, supplying diagrams and maps, and discusses its dangers, how one can take action, and supplies further resources. The longest sections in the book are the final two, outlining two role play situations that constitute a large part of the workshop. Overall, it is a brief and to-the-point manual that strives to expand knowledge of the dangers of the FTAA to more people and inspire them to act out against it. This was published by the John F. Henning Center for International Labor Relations, and was a project of the Center for Labor Research and Education at UC Berkeley. One can receive an updated version of the workshop or schedule a training by contacting Jeremy Blasi at (510) 642-1583 or http://henningcenter.berkeley.edu.
