This book was written based on the "International Seminar on Monitoring and Evaluation of Adult Education from a Gender Perspective" organized by the Unesco Institute for Education (UIE) in March 1999. The book reflects the contributions and experiences of several scholars and authors on three main crossing areas: adult education, gender, and monitoring and evaluation. The chapters of the books present a variety of case studies of monitoring and evaluation using a gender perspective in different regions of the world. The book is divided in three major parts: Practices in monitoring and evaluating literacy (includes four chapters), going beyond quantitative measures (includes three chapters), and monitoring international commitments (includes four chapters).
